Melons 2016 clothing plans

Okay this isn't where you talk about your cargo shorts and Coors light t-shirt.
This area is for everything from tutu's to cheetah paint and everything in between.

Melons 2016 clothing plans

Postby Melon » October 28th, 2015, 12:39 pm

This is where I'm compiling my clothing ideas for the burn night.

I'm planning on making 1 elaborate costume to suit the theme.

These are just my ideas. Not actual plans at the moment.

Mel, I spend a good chunk of my time in Renaissance garb.

When I saw the theme, I schwitzed a bit, cuz it's riiight up my alley.

My Ren vocal group went to BRC, en masse, in 2005(?).
The music was well received, but the only period garb we wore were hats, boots and belts. (The rest was lingerie and sarongs 8-) )

Because English garb looks fab, but it is uncomfortable and HOT.

These styles you're looking at are English; try looking at early Ren Italian stuff; it's MUCH more desert appropriate.
Looser fit. Lighter fabrics. Tunics and floor length overdress vests ...

I own at least 15 bodices and corsets; I've spent exactly one hour in one at BRC ... it was so restrictive I had to shed it, and I'm used to the darn things!

Drat I thought this was italian. Lol way to fail Google.

I was searching italian renaissance clothing patterns and these were in the mix.

I'll continue my search. My plans is to use heavy brocade for a nighttime jacket for warmth.

My day outfits will be muslin cotton and cheese cloth. All bodice work will be mimics as I'm not boning anything for the.desert. I'm mostly planning tunics and short skirts / coulottes so I won't get tangled in my bike.

I'm also looking at making a pair of articulating wings out of bamboo and damask silk.

Too many ideas not enough time!!!!!

Ya, Google may not be the best source for accuracy; but then again, does it really matter?? :D
If you're looking for accuracy, use dates 1300-1400.

For your nighttime coat, consider removable and/or 'openable' sleeves; makes it much more versatile with the undergarments.
Silk is also a great desert fabric ...

Melons I am impressed you are making your Renascence costumes very awesome!!!

This years theme does provide the opportunity to wear warmer Renascence garb to keep warmer at night I do like costumes but am not a seamstress so have to buy some pre made but have made or customize some costumes . Renascence costumes are not easy to wing lol they take some real skill to make from scratch so I did buy some. I would have like to have some more original and elaborate Renascence costumes but they are costly.

and I am terrible sew'er (seamstress??)

My plans are still hopefully planned....but I admit I've run short on time to get EVERYTHING I wanted to get done. I only got 1 outfit made and it was WAY more simple than my original plans. It's not sewn yet just pinned together in my garage.

But it's this fabric - in the Sky Blue (at the top)
Image

I have my "corset" (not a real one with bones) completed, with inserts
The Hood needs to be assembled
The Arm sleeves are pinned

I am needing to decide on Skirt or Bloomers....I am leaning Bloomers...only for long bike rides....OR I might do both and have interchangeable outfits.... lol

IF I get ALL cards finished by Sunday night - I will finish my outfits :)

Mel, that fabric is yummy, it looks great with your coloring!

If you go with long skirts just do the diaper tuck for bike riding.
Grab the hem, center back, bring it between your legs and tuck through your belt. If you don't belt, add a loop at the bottom front of your corset that will accommodate the skirt 'tail'.
Now you have a sort of harem pant that you can ride in.
YAY!
