I think I'll fill balloons with frozen margarita mix, keeps shit cool while we travel and is useful at destination. Then again, perhaps an experiment is required first - liquid lunches. LOL

Try a Raspberry Mojito (Earl's in Banff recipe)
1 oz Light Rum
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz simple syrup (heat equal parts sugar and water on the stove in a saucepan until the sugar is dissolved. cool and refrigerate)
10 mint leaves
handful fresh (or frozen) raspberries
Top with soda water
Line wedge / choice of garnish

Muddle the rum, lime juice, simple syrup, mint and raspberries in the base of a Collins glass. Fill half way with ice, then add half the soda water. Stir to bring up the mint and raspberries (so they won’t clog your straw), then top with more ice and soda. Serve with a straw.

Balloons will give it a yucky rubber taste but we could freeze it none the less, into slushy or something.

I have a LOT of mint in my garden. Its actually becoming a pest.
I will bring a bunch. To comply with BLM rules, I will have to cut the roots off. But it will be good for a week or more refrigerated.

We have droughts and floods. In the drought, everything dies. In the flood, everything dies.
So there's this sort of in between.
The mint is established in raised beds. I can water them in the drought. And they are raised above the flood.
Just takes a little encouragement... and we will have plenty.

That sounds great beams, we are going to try and gather some of the ingredients and do some testing over the next month or so.

So today - playing with mint and sugar.
Made a mint infused simple syrup. Maybe I steeped it too long, but the infusion dulled the sweet taste.
Mojitos made with the mint infused syrup were lower quality in the taste testing than the ones that were made the traditional way.

But then...
We made some the traditional way, used fewer mint leaves, and added 5 drops of mint extract - excellent!!!!

Also, we used key limes instead of the bigger Persian limes.

Quite palatable.

They wont let us bring mint across the border, basically anything growing or from an animal, we will be coming down with almost no food stuffs. Buy everything there.
May have to rely on the fresh mint.

I'll bring plenty. But, truth be told... we made a better taste with less real mint, but 5 drops of mint extract.
Grey's theory is that = to produce the extract, the industrial mavens mash the whole plant, including stems. So then, they have to remove the turpenes, and do it with a solvent extraction. So you get pure oil and no turpene. Which makes for a better flavor.
Whatever... I didn't even take organic chemistry. I assume Grey is right (as usual).
We are just bringing enough mint to make it pretty - and relying on the extract for flavor.

Lets use the extract then if its easier, use less fresh mint for garnish more than anything. What the patrons dont know wont hurt them
