Went camping with Chuck, Kowtow and Grey Coyote this weekend. I am having flashbacks from the week after TTITD 2014... I can't imagine why people are so uptight!

And I have very happy chickens and dogs tonight. Came back with all the leftovers. But once food has been in ice melt in the cooler, its just not to be trusted... so it went to a intensely grateful audience.

Today I tried a dose of Vitamin D to override the natural depression I feel after every day without any sunlight.
I think it helped.
I'm not... like, cheerful... but I am less gloomy.

Lifting a glass in your general direction. :)

Its been pretty dull around here lately. The mischief quotient when you, Kowtow and Grey are occupied elsewhere, drops dramatically.

I threw up in a McDonald's cup, after a coughing fit, at 75 miles an hour.
And didn't die. :D

I'm still getting over this cough. Sometimes I cough so much I gag. There was not a big enough shoulder to pull over on the left, too much traffic to think about pulling over on the right.
And I didn't want to drive on the grass - its been raining for 40 days and 40 nights, and the ground would be soft = I would have gotten stuck.

Today I got to drive 20 minutes in the rain, without a jacket, to Da Bosses house, to let an AT&T tech in, so he could tell me *personally* they had isolated the problem with the house DSL line to a position 0.0 feet from the frame in the central office. (In other words, Zippy the Fucking WunderTech from AT&T "accidently" disconnected THAT line at the main office yesterday when they "upgraded" the other one at our in-town office.)

BTW: the punch line to the above is this: My "vehicle" was a John Deere riding lawn mower. It will do a whopping 5 mph at wide open throttle. Even at 55F....

Definitely a new career high for me! LOL!!!

If the most news worthy thing today is that Japan has crowned a beauty queen who is half black - its a good day. :D

Last night my girls came over. I was beat - landscaping, porch cleaning, gate fixing, critter feeding... all the usual back breaking things I do on weekends - so I gave them control of the kitchen.
Taylor made bacon and pancakes.
Cara made lemon-pepper-Italian bread crumbs-tilapia, with a spring mix herbal salad, radishes, and carrots.
:D

Starting to plan for the pre-Easter dinner: prime rib, rabbit, and salmon... 8-)

The barn swallows are back. :)
They are beautiful, incredible aerialists, and chatter cheerfully all day long. :)

So... Tuesday there was a big thunderstorm in our home town. Didn't worry - was too busy.
Wednesday we had to travel.
Today (Wednesday late) I find out that the power has been out for 33 hours.

DAMN!!! Grey is soooooo good. He designed and built my back up generator system. Its been running for 33 hours without my knowledge. Haven't lost a single frozen tamale.:)

We think the meter got hit by lightning. But before that the genny detected "bad"power and switched over. So the only thing we lost was the meter - not the system.

YAH!!!!

Update: it was a direct hit VERY close to the entrance panel. The meter came out in three pieces. (The power company dude was quite impressed by that).

Unfortunately the transfer switch controller is also toast.

Its last act was to realize the power was getting dirty, fire the genny up, and switch the loads to genny power pre-emptively. A few minutes later, Nature delivered the killer blow and zorched the meter and controller. Since the transfer switch was already in the right position and the genny was running, when the controller vaporized nothing was affected. The rest of the system just kept on trucking.

I dont want to think what we would have found if her home was on grid power when the big hit came.

But as Beams says, the tamales are safe.

Holy smokes (lol literally).

Wow preparedness points ftw.

I'm super thrilled that all worked out the way it was supposed to.

Dang I can only imagine how awful it could of been. O_o

Great save of a day Beams and Grey! And functioning mechanical engineering!

Been on the road 16 days over the last 20.

Am home for today through Tuesday then back at it up to comox and into Vancouver for another 10.

Summer can't come soon enough! (But then it needs to stay for like 16 months)

Been sewing, packing and preparing for the big adventure.

Hey weren't we all to try a Skype call sooner than later?

Wow!!
Way to go on the back-up plan...
Scary stuff
My Mom, in Arlington, lost a big oak tree to a storm a couple of weeks ago. It took out a fence, slightly damaged the neighbors house, slightly damaged a work shed, and ripped the whole breaker box off the side of Mom's house.
No injuries to humans or animals luckily.

It was my favorite climbing tree from childhood. Had to be close to 100 years old....it was already really big 50 years ago when I was climbing it.

Still bragging about the genny system that Grey designed and built for my house. Tonight we took a mesocyclone. Little sister to a tornado.
Trees down all over town. Every ditch is full. Most properties are flooded.
I have lights. :)
And a/c...
And freezers...
So good!!!!

Of course there is that little thing about the missing transfer switch - totally incinerated. But that will be fixed soon.
